The Men In Tights Do Their Bit To Help

Although the SAMM’s team was not set up to raise money for charity it has, over the
last 25 years been given well over £20,000 from lodges as a thank you for providing
a demonstration. Unfortunately just when money was needed for the pandemic
nearly all of the teams charity account had been distributed to worthy local causes.
Never the less there was sufficient money left to make two donations to “Love
Musgrove” and “Freewheelers known as Blood Bikes” which was original provided
with a new motor bike during RWBro David Nelsons charity appeal.

           Love Musgrove £200

As the impact of Covid-19 continues to evolve, Love Musgrove, the official charity of
Musgrove Park Hospital, has seen a huge number of donations to support staff and
patients during this Pandemic. Donations have flooded in from all corners of the
Somerset Community to support the incredible work of NHS staff working tirelessly
across the County. The staff at the Hospital have echoed Love Musgrove’s words of
thanks highlighting the real difference that money like this will make. However, there
is still more to be done, and work is being done with staff who are experiencing
challenges every day to see how they can be supported. After suggestions from
staff, Love Musgrove has purchased 150 digital radios to keep isolated and elderly
patients entertained whilst visits are unable to take place, and staff are also
exploring ways that donations can be used to help those in isolation communicate
           with their loved ones.

           Blood Bikers £200

Freewheelers EVS is a registered charity, which offers an out of hours and free of
charge courier service to the NHS. Our slogan "Riding for Life" describes our
operation perfectly. We ride to play our part in saving peoples lives and we ride to
save the NHS money that would otherwise be wasted on taxis or expensive
couriers, but more than anything else we ride because we love it. In 2008, in
recognition of the dedicated work of our volunteers, we were given The Queen's
Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest honour that a voluntary group can
receive, equivalent in status to an MBE.
