Students’ Giving Spirit
Priory students raised over $1,300 for Kosovo refugees. They earned the 1999 “Golden Harvest” award for working to end hunger. They cleaned beaches, refurbished buildings, assisted the disabled and in a dozen ways applied the Benedictine value of community service.

Orchestra/Choir Award
Music continues to thrive and grow. Priory now supports two orchestras and two choirs (Middle
and High School, with options for more experienced players to advance), plus an advanced musicians’ recital and some small ensembles. Students were surprised and delighted to win not only a silver award but also the spirit trophy at the San Diego Heritage Music Festival, in which about 1,500 students
participated last spring.

Help From More Friends
Inspired by the theme, “Faculty First,” the number of Annual Fund donors increased in every category on these pages. Special gifts, scholarship and memorial contributions also grew. Thank you!
Many Merit Honors
Julie and Mike were joined by five more Priory students who earned Commended and National Hispanic recognition (almost 19% of the class). Five graduates (almost 14 %) of the Class of 1998 received Advanced Placement Scholar awards last year. Janette Maldonado received a $16,000 pre-med scholarship.
Athletic Successes
Varsity Girls and Boys Volleyball, and Varsity Girls Basketball made CCS (regional) playoffs. Two middle school basketball teams were league champs. Eighteen athletes won all-league recognition. Three made CCS; Steve Trudelle made state finals in track. Five new teams were launched last year.
Environment Rules!
Environmental awareness was evident in posters, collection receptacles and many student activities. Middle School students created this fanciful poster for a fall dance, which raised funds to support Dr. Jane Goodall’s environmental work in Africa. Dr. Goodall was guest speaker at Woodside Priory’s Community Forum last spring.
