Spirit Week at Priory has come to be a
respected institution. There are rules and regulations, set funds, and expectations. This year, however, the ASB instituted a new structure for Spirit Week that highlighted each grade's creativity, decorations, and theme implementation, pitting the classes against each other in a competition to win the Priory Cup.
Where before, Panthers woke up in the wee hours of the morning to decorate the entire school, don silly costumes, and hold up signs encouraging incoming cars to honk, this year the game rules changed. Instead of having the run of campus, each class was given a certain area to thoroughly decorate and told to leave their decorations up for the duration of the week.
4. Sophomores compete in the annual tug-of-war contest at Field Day, representing their class in Priory's most intense show of strength. 5. Orange-clad juniors and all of the other classes gather around the tables in Father Egon Plaza to consume the juniors' snacks. 6. During freshman spirit day, Madison Baker (9) looks on with delight at the radioactive festivities.
What was each class theme?
Middle School Minions
Radioactive Freshmen
Dr. Seuss's Sophomores
Finding the Juniors
The Woodside Patrol
Each class more than stepped up to the challenge. The juniors supplied water and boats to fully portray their “Finding Nemo” theme in Father Egon Plaza, while the sophomores recreated the world of Dr. Seuss by the student center. Benedictine Square was a hub of senior spirit with the Woodside Patrol, and the week finished with the middle school “Despicable Minions” in Church Square and “Radioactive” freshmen on the field.
Though Spirit Week had never been structured the way it was this year, Priory students were nothing if not adaptable. Each class stepped up to the challenge and, in the words of junior class representative Anna Brett, “Spirit Week is a great way for the whole school to come together to eat good food, play silly games, and have lots of fun!”
