SLAC's Not Slacking Off:
An Interview With Student Life Advisory Chair Shivani Dayal
How did SLAC decide the new
dress code? SLAC took this issue
very seriously because it was one that mattered to the students. We felt that Priory kids knew how to dress appropriately and that they should be given the freedom to express themselves responsibly. There was a lot of research, background studying, and discussion that went on before SLAC reached a decision and we are very happy that the administration decided to implement our plan!
What are your plans for the cafeteria food initiative? Priory has a growing number of vegetarians and yet we don't have food to accommodate their needs, or the needs of students trying to eat fresh and healthy food, so we are on a mission to advocate for them. We intend to research other schools' food programs so that we know where Priory stands within the larger school system. Then we will survey Priory students to know what foods they like, and then find out what can be realistically implemented at Priory.
What is SLAC focusing on for
the future? This year, SLAC has
broken into groups and each group will be tackling a different issue. The Food Initiative is the largest project, but we also have groups working on integrating dormers and day students, an effort to bring back a form of the student store, and a campaign to make Priory's disciplinary policies more visible (rather than the ambiguous rules we have now).
