The juniors made a difference and formed new friendships on their retreat in the Tenderloin.

On January 13th, the Junior class took a bus
to the Tenderloin district in San Francisco. During the visit, the juniors volunteered at various organizations such as The Boys and Girls Club, Glide, and City Impact. After the juniors' first day in the city, the class took a bus over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and stayed at the YMCA. All the students had a great time at the YMCA, attending the heartwarming candle ceremony, sleeping in a room with all of their friends, and checking out the beach during free time.
After the short bus ride back over the bridge, the juniors put more time into various organizations for the rest of the day.
The students made many memories over the two day retreat. The juniors got to share loving experiences and fortify their strong friendships. This retreat also allowed the class to bond with new friends that were not in any of their previous classes. The trip proved to strengthen their classmates perspectives on how fortunate their lives are. This taught them to put more effort into helping those around them in their day to day lives. For many students, going into the Tenderloin was like traveling into a different world. Sasha Malek (11) says, “It was a very eye opening experience, and it changed my perspective on life. I wouldn't have missed this experience for the world”
