Priory students gain insight and understanding from the languages they learn and the art they create.
One of the most compelling aspects of the Priory is its
ability to welcome change, growth, and development while still maintaining its core values. Though the art building was one of the few to not undergo renovation over the summer, it welcomed change in the form of new teachers like Mr. Matson, who brought differing perspectives on art and life to the Priory campus.
Art is more than a simple expression of creativity. It is one of the few visual ways to embody one's thoughts, emotions, values, and ideas in a tangible medium. In addition to offering various art classes during the school day, Priory gives community members the opportunity to present their art in the Kriewall-Haehl gallery in the PAC, where teachers, students, and outside individuals alike have hung their paintings and set up their statues in an attempt to bring more beauty to the Priory campus.
Learning is a multifaceted experience. It is for this reason that institutions like the Kriewall-Haehl gallery exist, and it is for this reason that Priory requires a two year miniumum level of language proficiency for graduation. Teachers like Madame Benz encourage their students to take into account all aspects of languages, including reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension. To further this end, there are projects like the artist project, in which French 3 students choose an impressionist painter - perhaps one they studied in an art class - to study, write a short essay about, and then form a presentation upon.
Though it is difficult to fully incorporate the classic values of art and language into a modern curriculum, with the gallery and the addition of full language apprehension, Priory does it well.
