We are so lucky to have a school like Priory that has a wide variety of arts. All of the students are somehow involved in fine arts at Priory. Our school has a lot of fun and different classes! Many students at other schools don’t have the opportunity to take the unique art classes that we provide. For example, our school has a glass class and a metals class, most schools, even many colleges, don't have these classes. We also have a kinetic sculpture class for middle school. This middle school class had a project where they made marshmallow shooters out of different materials. In metals and glass the students get to use fire to mold and create some of the coolest things. The most popular art classes this year are Drawing and Painting and Ceramics.
The newest class is drawing and painting which was started a few years ago. AP art history is another fun class. It is taught by Ms. Thayer and the students learn about the history of art from cave painting to modern day. Ms. Thayer who is the head of the visual arts department says that, “One of the best parts of teaching the art classes is seeing the process of discovery on the students faces or the ‘ah ha’ moments. If students are trying something new and they are either succeeding or failing it is so much fun just seeing them in that process. And finally of course it’s great when they are proud of their work.”

Q: What is the theme of your AP Studio Art test?
A: I am exploring the concept of how we dehumanize death and how we distance ourselves from the experience by making it seem surreal. I created a neolithic skull and it's going to have driftwood antlers. I am dehumanizing the skull which usually symbolizes death by adding the antlers. It's pretty dark.
Q: What is your favorite type of art?
A: Glass blowing or photography.
Q: What's your favorite piece of art you have made in this class?
A: What I am working on now
Q: What artists inspires you?
A: Frans Lanting and Mone.
