Max Habeck, a Spanish student, says that “learningasecondlanguageisoneofthebestways to learn more about different cultures and gain a larger world view”. This is especially true of the extraordinary foreign language program at Priory. Therearefourlanguagestochoosefrom:Spanish, French,Mandarin,andJapanese,allofwhichhave excitingandfunculturalactivitiestodothroughout theyear.InSpanishclass,youhavetheopportunity toexperienceaDayoftheDead“fiesta”.Duringthe celebration,youlistentotraditionalmusic,dance, and of course, eat delicious food. program, you partake in the annual “French Week”festival,aweekdevotedtolearningmore about France and French culture. Finally, the Chinese department holds a Lunar New Year celebration every January or February. There, Mandarinstudentspresentabriefhistoryof China,itslanguage,andChineseNewYear, followedbyatraditionalliondanceandafeast ofpotstickersandeggroles,whichMandarin studentJasmineTangsaysisherfavoritepart. TakingaforeignlanguageatPrioryisagreat way to be exposed to new cultures and become a citizen of the world.
