With science and technology changing so rapidly around us, the teaching and study of science courses has never been more relevant to our daily lives. What distinguishes our science programs at Priory are dedicated teachers and events like the regular speakers hosted throughout the year. Biology teacher Mrs. Parker has a passion for teaching because, “[she] especially enjoys helping students believe in themselves through science [and] in a world with so much diversity. Biology unites all humans and all living things.” The other perspective on studying science is
4 from the students and how classes impact them in their own lives. Wako Morimoto [10] feels that biology helps her “realize how many cool things your body can do to keep you healthy”. The science department is also distinguished by its Science Friday

speaker series that brings a wealth of talent and insight into our knowledge about science, connecting news, possible careers, and sparking more interest for many. The first speaker of the school year was Patrick Tornes (12), who spoke about his experience working in a lab during the summer and his discoveries from the lab experiment he worked on. The diversity of guests ranges greatly, and student Yuju Shin (11) claims, “Mr. Clark’s brother Josiah inspired [her] to learn more about nature and the local ecosystems. His talk also made [her] want to take environmental studies in college”. Science Friday speakers are an important aspect that enhances the department offerings while helping make science accessible and relevant to one’s life.
