Click! Clack! Bang! Bang! What's that sound? That's the sound of Mr. Sugden's Swords, Words and Mayhem class learning how to use a broad sword. Swords, Words and Mayhem is only one of the many theatre and drama classes offered at the Priory middle school. In this class, students learn to how to properly use a swords, learn about Shakespeare, and how to craft Shakespearean insults. Mr. Sugden teaches this class, and he also teaches Middle School improv, acting, and play production. In this class, students play a bunch of improvisationalgamesandcollectivelyputtogetherashow at the end of the quarter for the whole school as their sort
of “final.” Ms. Paulson teaches a class called Musical Theatre Performance to introduce middle schoolers to the world of theater. Mr. Sugden said that this year, they are using more technology in their classes more than in years past. There are two plays the middle schoolers can be involved in. The All-school and middle school shows. Eighth grader Amelia Hoffmann says, “my favorite part of being in a show is that I gets to interact with my friends,and I get to learn all kinds of new acting techniques.” There are so many opportunitiestothrivehereandstudentsgetawide variety of dramatic experiences.
