8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip

While the seventh and sixth graders are off at outdoor ed., the eighth graders are embarking on one of their last journeys together as a class. Going to Washington DC was an exciting new experience for many of the eighth graders. “Leaving my parents was easy since I went on a Japan trip, but again sometimes you just want to be home,” said Shannon Fitzgerald (8) Leaving for DC the eight graders knew what great and memorable sights they were going to see ahead.There were many memorable places to visit on the trip, and the eight graders saw them all. From the monuments to the memorials, the museums to the malls; The eighth grade was there. Visiting Arlington National Cemetery was a very special place for some members of the class. “The most meaningful thing about Arlington was seeing my grandpa and grandmothers grave. The last time I saw it was when I was little so it brought back a lot of

memories,”said Francesca Geoly (8) who went to visit her grandparents grave while in Arlington. Another meaningful part about DC was visiting the World War II Memorial. The eighth graders were lucky enough to be there when many WWII veterans were visiting on an honor flight trip. “When I talked to the veterans I felt very happy because I love history, and I got to hear real stories. It was the most meaningful part of the DC trip,”said Henry Saul (8.) Even though the 2014 DC trip had some very sentimental moments there were also times of fun and joy. Going to the mall, and seeing the National Cathedral were some of the popular moments. “The National Cathedral was really fun. In my opinion the DC trip was great,” said Shannon Fitzgerald (8). Altogether it was a great bonding experience, and last long journey for the eight grade class to take together.
