Flames of Redemption

The runners conquer their first meet, spreading the energy throughout like fire on gasoline. The team opened their league competition season with at great meet in early march at Bellarmine. The season brought many firsts for team members. Miranda Prince (9), Jaulie Goe (11) and Yuju Shin (11) looked smooth in their first-ever attempt at the 300m hurdles and showed great potential for this grueling event. Maria Naclerio (11) opened her season with a solid 2:27 in the 800m, followed close behind by Hana Marsheck (11) (2:31) and Sarah Halabe (11) (2:43.) and Anjali Eichbaum (11) and Charis Chiu (9) putting forth great season-opening efforts, as well. The team agrees that their biggest rival was Crystal Springs, and the boys (Jack Herrera (11), Lucas Harris (9), Ben Clock (12)and Ross Corey(12))
took first after a hard-fought battle against them. But, it wasn't all about winning. By spending so much time with one another, the athletes began to feel closer to each other. “When you're out there sharing your sweat, blood, and tears with others, its hard to not develop new frienships,” says Wako Morimoto (10). Anne McLaughlin agrees, exclaiming, “I like how we can use the time to get to know other people.” They've shared lots of great memories together, like a story shared by Jack Nash (9), “A good laugh we had was the time we were doing hill sprints on Windy Hill and a hiker called in the park ranger on us because our rubber bands were “obstructing the trail”.
