Virtual Lab Session: Studying the spatio-temporal
expression pattern of lncRNAs

Typically, long non-coding RNAs are expressed at low levels and maybe
restricted to transient time-windows, specific tissues and spatial
locations. Their limited conservation and frequent overlap with other genes
pose additional challenges in designing probes for detecting expression.
In situ hybridization remains a tried and tested method for detection
of the spatio-temporal pattern of gene expression. Using a novel lncRNA that is
specifically expressed in a highly restricted pattern, the experimental protocol, tips
and precau-tions to detect novel lncRNA expression in tissues will be discussed and
demonstrated.
