LETTER FROM
THE LOWER SIXTH
I’m Jenny, I joined Millfield and Martins in Year 10 and
now I am an Upper Sixth student. My experience in
Martins has been very happy and positive. I am getting
all the support that I need from all the staff from house
parents, liaisons, and house managers. They are always
kind and very helpful to us so we feel we are at home.
And that makes our experiences much easier and
enjoyable!
I’m Maddie and I joined Millfield in Year 9 but joined
Martins in Year 10. I will be in Upper Sixth next year.
Being in Martins the past three years has been nothing
but amazing, from the staff to house trips. During
the school term there are a lot of activities within the
house such as house sports, house singing and a trip to
Cabot Circus in Bristol.
I’m Haika and I joined Millfield in Year 9 but have been
in Martins since Year 10. I would describe Martins as
a welcoming and understanding environment created
by both the staff and girls in the house. At the end of
a hard day at school I always look forward to having a
chat with the house manager and other girls in house.
During inter house events, it is evident how much spirit
us girls have for our house, which makes them really
enjoyable. So far, I have enjoyed participating in house
netball, house song and football. The house offers a
number of opportunities to take the edge off, such as:
table football, table tennis, pizza vans and even house
trips to Cabot Circus or surfing at The Wave. I truly
appreciate being in this house.
House events are great opportunities to bond and
show house spirit. Some of our favourite ones are
house song, house football, house netball and athletics
because they allow you to have fun as a house and you
can let your competitive side out.

Tips:
1. Bring things to decorate your room and make it
a bit more personal to you (e.g pictures, blankets,
battery-powered fairy lights or teddies).
2. There is lots of storage in Martins but one thing
we would advise is to have your luggage labelled or
have an identifying feature as some suitcases look the
same.
3. Label your clothing.
4. Luckily there’s a lot of storage in general (especially
in rooms) but you really don’t need too many items to
pack since they provide all the bedding you need and
being in school uniform or sports kits half the time,
you really only need a few hoodies and sweatpants.
5. It’s really easy to get things ordered to you or to
walk into Street to buy things that might have run out
so don’t panic if you don’t feel fully prepared before
coming to school.
6. Don’t worry about being homesick as the whole
house is here to comfort you, but the best way to feel
better is to stay busy.
7. Bring a water bottle.
8. Bring a shower caddy to save you from awkwardly
carrying everything to the shower.
