WARNER
LETTER FROM
A LOWER SIXTH
Hi, I’m Sasha.
I joined Millfield in Year 9 and I am currently in Lower Sixth. Millfield is the term
‘busy body’ personified, with lots of people doing a variety of things! Millfield
encourages us to try different things and step out our comfort zone. Whether this is
during MAP where a broad range of activities are offered, from fun charity activities
like crocheting and bracelet making to things like architecture and girls’ cricket.
There is also the Lower Sixth camp at the start of the year, where there are activities
ranging from inflatables to canoeing and beach games, with the whole year group.
These offer great opportunities to make friends and learn new skills.
After having the busy days that we have at Millfield, it is always nice to know that there
is somewhere we can come back and decompress. For this, we come back to Warner
where our house parent Mrs Weare makes it feel more like a home than a house. There
is always pool or the ping pong table up, and during the summer there are badminton
rackets and footballs that we can use to play in the garden. When settling into house
my best advice would be to just say yes to everything! Whether that be getting
involved in house events, such as house athletics or the house debate or engaging with
as many people as possible.
When I joined Warner in Year 10, I knew it was going to be an extremely supportive
and caring community, and I know that many of the new Lower Sixth felt this way as
well. So, I know it may feel daunting joining a school as big as Millfield, but there is no
need to worry (I know easier said than done!). What is also great about Millfield is that
there is a dining hall meaning if you have made friends that aren’t in house, whether
this be from camp, your lessons, sports, or other activities you can meet up and have
meals together. There are also many other opportunities to socialise with people, such
as Sixth Form Café where Lower Sixth often go during break or during one of your
study periods. In the café, you can buy yourself a drink or a snack and chat with your
friends. However, there are also a lot of people who go to the library to work during
their study periods. The library is a great facility offering endless books for both further
reading in subjects and for pleasure.
Millfield also has a great support group that look out for the wellbeing of the students.
They are here for students to talk to, whether you are feeling worried, homesick, tired
or if you have any questions you want to ask. House parents, group tutors, councillors,
teachers, coaches, and peer mentors are always present and happy to help you.
We are all looking forward to meeting you! If you have any questions, you can contact
me on my email.
