A LETTER FROM

UPPER SIXTH

Hey!

We’re your Upper Sixth next year, and we just wanted to say a quick hello and give
you a few things we wish we’d known before starting at Millfield. Think of this as your
unofficial starter pack!

First things first, Millfield is big. There’s a lot going on, loads of people, and more
activities than you can count. It might feel a bit overwhelming at first, but that’s
totally normal. Everyone’s new, everyone’s figuring things out, and it doesn’t take
long to find your people and settle in. Just say yes to stuff, even if it’s a bit out of your
comfort zone! You’ll be surprised how quickly things start to click.
Portway Upper Sixth students
Portway’s not just where you sleep, it becomes your place. The random chats, late-
night snacks, and shared chaos make it feel like home. Whether it’s crepe nights,
BBQs, or getting ready for house events, some of your best memories will happen
right here.

We also do loads together as a house - sports, debates, and yes, the infamous House
Song (it can get hectic, but it’s a great fun!). You don’t need to be the best at anything
— just turn up, get involved, and have a good time.

Here are a few quick tips from us:

Make your room feel like your space. Bring stuff that makes you feel at home—
photos, fairy lights, posters, your favourite blanket. And seriously, bring a mattress
topper. You’ll thank us later. Try the hash browns at Sunday brunch. No explanation
needed….. Ask questions, about anything. No one expects you to know how
everything works straight away. Lastly, just have fun!! It sounds obvious, but it’s easy
to overthink things at the start.

Millfield can seem massive at first, but Portway makes it feel smaller in the best way.
You’re already part of it, and we’re looking forward to meeting you.
