HOLMCROFT
WELCOME
TO HOLMCROFT
Hello, we are Rich and Jen Owlett, we are Millfield's longest
serving boarding house staff. We create a warm and
supportive environment where children are able to flourish
and succeed.
Rich worked in industry for 17 years before becoming a
teacher in 2003. He is also a RYA dinghy instructor and
coached sailing at Millfield for a number of years. He teaches
Business Studies and is a rugby coach and society referee.
Jen has a wide range of experiences. She worked as a farmer
in New Zealand, managed a chalet in Verbier and ran a bar in
Greece before having a career in industry. She was
appointed as Houseparent in 2010 and is now the heart and
soul of Holmcroft. She works in the Learning Support Depart-
ment and therefore has an exceptional understanding of the
support and processes that are on offer to the students, as
well as a wealth of experience.
We have four children and two dogs. The two boys have
completed their Millfield education. Jack was a professional
rugby player and now works in the city, and Archie completed
his degree at Exeter University (1st class) and is now playing
rugby in Sydney. Maddie and Fizzy are enthusiastic about
many things and are at Millfield.
Downtime is important and food, company, conversations
and fun is central to this. Sharing conversations and thoughts
are key and informal gatherings in the foyer, out the front of
house in the summer are times to laugh, share, support and
look at the light side of life. We organise many trips over the
year and of course the boys and parents love their time in
Holmcroft.
We create a home-from-home atmosphere, our job is to
parent, and this includes following through with any issues
regarding a lack of academic engagement or any issues with
behaviour. Everyone appreciates the need to be firm and
fair and we are always up for discussing your child’s progress
through the school. Transparency leads to trust and trust
leads to a good understanding as to how your son can make
progress through his teenage years.
