SHAPWICK
LETTER FROM
A LOWER SIXTH
When joining Shapwick I was very excited yet nervous about
changing to a new school and environment, especially as I
was joining a bit later than usual. However, these nerves were
quickly forgotten as the second I stepped through the door I was
greeted with warmth and kindness from the Housemaster and
my soon to be best mates. These bonds with the lads in my year
group were quickly affirmed through the Lower Sixth camp as
well as sport. I quickly learnt how busy my school life would be
with a mixture of sport and academics and time was flying by.
The house is an amazing place to be as there’s always
something going on, whether that’s playing pool with your
friends or house football. As well as all the bubble around house
there is always time to chill out in your room and crack on with
your work when needed. Something that I did to settle in is bring
my own pillow and blankets as well as a few posters to put up on
my wall to make my room feel nice and homely.
It wasn’t until house singing that I realised how together as a
house Shapwick really is with all the year groups coming
together and pushing each other to show up on the big day,
which as a non-natural born singer I needed a lot of! But as well
as these bigger house events there are house events happening
weekly such as Thursday night steak night and house football.
To conclude, Shapwick is the place to be and your time here will
fly by with all the fun you're having. Things can get busy and
overwhelming sometimes, but when you're in a house full of lads
just like you, as well as having your coaches, group tutor and
housemaster - you always have someone there to talk to if you
are struggling.
