ORCHARDS
WELCOME TO
ORCHARDS
You are now a member of Orchards, a community of 64
boys and 10 members of staff. We hope you will be proud of
it and enjoy being part of what we like to think is one of the
best houses at Millfield. We hope that you will all respect
each other as individuals, as there will be a wide variety of
different cultural backgrounds, personalities, talents, values,
ambitions and needs. We can learn a lot from these differ-
ences if we are open-minded and generous-spirited. We
hope you will be happy here, but we also want you to work
hard and reach your full potential academically,as well as
taking full advantage of the wide range of sporting and cul-
tural activities that Millfield has to offer. Living in a boarding
house, we would like to encourage:
I live alongside you in Orchards with my wife, Holly, and
children. We have been at Millfield for ten years, after both
working in independent schools in South West London. I
was the Housemaster of Ivythorn for two years; and I teach
in the Geography department and as well as coaching
hockey. Holly works in the Admissions department, and has
coached some netball while we have been at the school, and
much of her time has also been devoted to bringing up our
young children; Isobel, Stanley, Zachary and dog Bess.
Respect for others.
Politeness, manners and courtesy towards everyone in the
House. Greet all visitors with a smile and a 'hello'.
Responsibility for yourself and others.
Openness and honesty – if you are unhappy please come
and tell us and we will always try to help.
