ORCHARDS

                                             LETTER FROM

                                             A LOWER SIXTH

                                             Dear Future Orchardian,

I joined Orchards in the Lower Sixth having travelled to England
from Dubai. I thought that being so far away from home would be
an experience that would make me feel lonely and isolated, however,
Orchards really made it the complete opposite. Mr Robertson, Mr Boyle
and all of the boys here are all full of kindness and are there to help you
on every step of your journey at Millfield. As I stepped foot off of the
plane and landed in Heathrow in early September, my heart sunk a little,
and then the car journey down to Somerset the feeling in my heart got
even more tense. But since day one, Orchards has felt like a family to me
and the house events and opportunities at Millfield just allow all of us to
create a strong brotherhood, especially in Orchards.

Coming to Millfield and Orchards I really did not have much experience
with anything extra-curricular apart from rugby. However, opportunities
arose and I was quick to try new things such as boys' netball and even
singing in the house chamber choir for the house song competition.
Getting involved with house events and other events is something I would
highly recommend to you. It allows you to meet new people and create
memories you didn’t think you could make. As well as these I play second
team rugby, study Business A level and BTEC Sport, which at times have
been challenging but overall, very enjoyable.

Before joining the school at the start of September, I decided to go to
the pre-season that they offer for most sports. This allowed me to make
friends early on before the first term started and friends that I still have
today. If sport is a big part of the reason you picked Millfield, I recommend
that you go to pre-season in the summer as well. Trust me - it helps! But
don’t worry if sport is not a big reason for you joining, as Orchards is a big
family and is extremely welcoming from the get go.

I hope this was useful for you to read and I look forward to meeting you in
September. I know you will like this house as much as I do.

                                             Jack
