AURIEL BLAKEY

I graduated from Mercy High School with Magna Cum Laude. I was a member of the International Thespian
Society, the French Honor Society, as well as the National Honor Society. I was recently in the cast of Mercy
High School’s spring musical, “Grease” playing the role of Patty Simcox. I was also a member of my high
school’s French Club, Mime Troupe, and the Black Awareness Society for Education (B.A.S.E.). Outside of
school, I am an Ambassador level Girl Scout and serves as a Patrol Leader in the Girl Scout Mackinac Island

Honor Guard Troop 327. Additionally, I am a Detroit Recycling Ambassador for Green Living Science. I will be
attending Ball State University in the fall.

I grew up in Rosedale Park in Detroit. I will major in theatre with plans of pursuing acting for film and tv as
well as humanitarian work. The SKF Scholarship will help me pursue my dreams of acting on camera, and
expanding the depiction of Black women and culture on screen. I look forward to coming back to help my
community. As a recycling ambassador, I will be able to encourage young people to take care of the planet
by starting in their own community.

My motivation for facing adversity is trying to find ways to make myself and others happy despite the
tribulations of today’s world. During the pandemic, I discovered new activities that I enjoyed such as learn-

ing songs on the piano and junk journaling. Throughout the pandemic, I attended protests, and read about
events occurring at the time to I would be informed. I will keep my faith when I go to college by finding a
space for me to practice my faith in order to have the courage to follow God’s plan for me. I hope to find
friends who will help me in my faith journey and help me to be the best version of myself. My drive for
academic achievement stays constant because of my family’s dedication to me . They have been pushing

me to be my best in school throughout my life, and now I have a strong commitment to my educational
career and taking advantage of my resources.
