E uents
Constant investments are made in enhancing E uent Treatment Stations, so as to maintain the average global e ciency of organic load re- moval (Biochemical Oxygen Demand – BOD) at above 85% (Brazilian law requires 80%).
All Minerva units carry out primary and sec- ondary treatment of e uents. Liquid e uents dispensed in operations are subject to physi- cal, chemical and biological treatment, later undergoing monitoring by sample to verify the e cacy of the system and identify points for improvement. At some units, these e uents are used for irrigation – which is why mon- itoring is also done of soil, groundwater and bodies of water that receive water generated by operations, in accordance with environmental licensing requirements.)
(See more information on the performance of the e uents indicator in the GRI Indicators Annex.)
Waste
Solid waste is treated in an environmentally ap- propriate manner through the Industrial Solid Waste Management Program. Activities result in the disposal of various categories of waste, with each category having a speci c destination so that it can be reused, eliminated or decontami- nated, in order to leverage sustainable use.
