Day One of Science Week saw Mrs Lewis’ F-1 class visit our laboratories.
For some students, this was their first time in the lab! This year’s theme is ‘Glass: More than Meets the Eye’, and students began by considering all the essential uses of glass at home and school. With the assistance of our Year 10 students, they launched into hands-on activities, including viewing specimens with the help of glass (microscopes & magnifying glasses) and painting stained glass windows!
Day Two: Miss Hunting’s Year 1/2 class created their own ‘stained glass’ windows and explored how hot honey and cool honey can help us understand more about glass! It was our Year 7 students’ turn to help run the activities today, and they did a great job!
Day Three: Miss Roocke’s Year 4/5 class explored how energy can be transmitted through glass and why this makes glass so useful! They constructed their own working light globes and completed a design challenge by making model greenhouses with limited materials. Each student then made their own living terrarium to take home and nurture. We are thankful for our Year 10 students, who did a fantastic job helping run the activities today!
