wrong deeds and exploitation in the name of development, which kept filling the mighty
water bodies with heaps of chemicals. Thus the water bodies which were known as an
abode of new life became filthy and dirty drains. It was the same water that once helped
man to survive on earth, which has now been converted from divine to a dreadful resource.
Man, claiming to discover the secrets of the sea and to explore the depths of the ocean,
created certain elements that in turn made the existence of this vast pure resource, to fade
gradually. Hence the pollution of the water due to uncontrolled chemical and domestic
disposal and nuclear tests have once again made us remember-
‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’
- S.T. Coleridge
With the famous line-
“Water water everywhere, not a drop to drink”
The result which would seemingly be harsh, due to the conversion of water from a pious to
a polluted resource, and that due to our casual deeds.
Now let us interpret the philosophical meaning of the term ‘Water’. Water, as seen
through the poet’s eye, is a holy figure with all the great powers. On one hand when it
forms new life, on the other hand floods away all evils and miseries of the world to keep a
peaceful balance in this earth. It cleans away all the poisons of the society but never itself
becomes poisonous; giving us life-long lessons that- Sometimes we may be taken into
troubled waters, not to drown, but be cleansed. We can’t stop the waves but have to learn
to surf. Water as a great philosopher teaches to follow its example and find out alternate
ways in life when one is blocked, not letting us to sit back on facing failures. It imbibes in
our mind moral values that in turn get rippled in the human society.
Thus I would sum up here, recalling the context that though poor man thinks himself the
king with Science as his minister, it’s not so. Nature is the mighty one; can’t be kept under
one’s control. And so does water. It has its own way of correcting the mistakes, which
definitely would not be Healthy enough. So let’s not wait for the day for Nature to correct
our mistakes and correct them ourselves, right from now onwards. I would also request my
readers to ponder a while on it and try to Save Water. Let’s make “MISSION PAANI” our
vision and motto for future, because, it’s only this 3% pure, sweet water that helps us to
flourish, neither salty water nor the polluted one. Thus the Choice is Ours!!
- To be vigilant to flourish OR To be negligent to finish??
Truly it is said-
“Water is the Elixir of Life”
