Clinician Shadow Coaching
The Shadow Coaching process includes:
Discussion with leadership or the clinician requesting the coaching
Identification and review of feedback/data to assist in the coaching process
Focused discussion with the clinician in efforts to build rapport and gain
insight into clinician’s perspective on his/her own challenges
Following the clinician from patient to patient (similar to what a medical
student might do) quietly observing the interactions between the clinician and
the patient
Discussions through the session about challenges and alternative approaches
A summary meeting at the end of the session reviewing strengths and
opportunities with discussion about the feasibility of implementing specific
suggestions
Providing the clinician with one-year access to the Astute Doctor learning site
which is focused on physician patient communication with relevant topics
recommended
A written summary is provided to the clinician and to the medical director
Follow up contact by the coach with the clinician roughly two weeks, as well as
two months, after the original coaching visit to check on progress
