What is argumentative text?
An argumentative text is a type of writing in which the author
presents a clear stance on a particular issue or topic and supports this
stance with evidence, reasoning, and logic. The primary purpose of
an argumentative text is to persuade the reader to accept the author's
viewpoint or to consider it as a valid perspective. This form of
writing involves presenting facts, statistics, and examples, as well as
addressing and refuting counterarguments to strengthen the author's
position.
Argumentative texts have several main objectives, namely:
1. Convince the Reader: The main goal of argumentative text is
to convince the reader of the truth or superiority of an opinion
or idea. The author attempts to influence the reader's views
through logical arguments supported by strong evidence.
2. Invites critical thinking: This text encourages readers to think
critically about the topics discussed. By presenting diverse
and often complex arguments, argumentative texts invite
readers to consider various points of view before drawing
conclusions.
