WELCOME NOTE

I am extremely pleased to pen this message for ICAI Doha Chapter’s Fifth International Conference,
the theme of which is “Sustainability & Growth in the Digital Era”. The Digital Era, marked by the
ubiquitous growth of the Internet, E-Commerce, BOTs, Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence,
and on the horizon, the explosion of Block Chain technology, has been hugely disruptive and hugely
enabling at the same time. It has brought in both challenges and opportunities to businesses,
organisations and professionals. A successful business is measured in terms of generation of profit,
growth in volume and ultimately sustainability of both profit and growth. This last factor is the holy
grail for an aspiring venture, as it carries within validation of the ideology and practice behind the
business. It is of course easier said than done, and cannot be done without adapting tochange and
leveraging opportunities that are brought about by technological advances.

“It is in adversity that character is moulded and indeed defined” As professionals in the world of
finance and accounting, we too seek to achieve such growth and sustainability in our careers at
every level. We need to be able to embrace and leverage technological advances to our advantage,
to be able to continue to deliver enhanced value to our organisations and clients. Guidance that
helps us achieve this higher plane in our professional life is hence much sought after.

It is in this context that we have organised this Fifth International Conference with the theme
“Sustainability & Growth in the Digital Era”. We endeavour to provide our members with the tools
and guidance to succeed and sustain in this Digital Era. To provide information and inputs, we have
lined up a galaxy of luminaries from across the globe who will share their experience and expertise
with us at on topics centred around the theme of the conference.

As organising chairperson for the fifth international conference, I together with the team hope to bring
together a good program that stimulates both our personal knowledge and professional intellect. I
thank you for choosing to participate in this glorious event and hope you get to come away a better
and more complete professional.
