Among questions and comments by Group Members:
1. Is there hope for camp to run this year?
a) No. We just heard 2 weeks ago that we can’t open this year. We surveyed kids to learn if they were interested in a virtual camp via Zoom and they said no, online programs can’t replace the real thing.
2. Can kids come next year if they’re overage by then?
a) We have to look at that on a case by case basis. Some of those kids will be 20 or 21 next year. Camp is for kids aged 9 to 18 years old. We are planning
a Zoom graduation for campers who were to graduate in ’20 and ‘21, mailing them their quartz crystal, a camp tradition. Sometimes we hear from NSWOCs about older kids who’ve just heard about camp for the first time and we have made excep- tions in the past. Most kids take longer to graduate high school because of hospitalizations.
3. Does the camp fee include airfare or do parents have to cover that?
a) No, it doesn’t include airfare but we don’t deny any applicant for lack of funds. Different chapters handle fundraising for camp differently, and may sponsor any child. (OASC sponsored two kids a couple of years ago who told us they made lasting friendships there.)
