into their Green Mountain shirts and were immediately roped into blowing up balloons on their return.
The band had set up the laptop so that the whole wall behind the stage was covered with scenes from the Green Mountain DVD. Chuckie had added some clever text into the mix, the lyrics of his song twisted, spun and flashed on the wall. They were busy hanging a mirror ball from the roof.
‘Where in Hades did you get that thing from?’ shouted Saffron to her brother, who was perched high on a rickety looking aluminium ladder. He was too busy to answer, but Linda replied instead.
‘From my cousin, he’s a real geeky guy - has his bedroom set up just like a disco. Did you see that we’ve even got a smoke- machine? He entertains his friends with it. What a weirdo, but useful for us.'
Saffron, who was puffing away on a green balloon, just nodded her head in assent. The friends hung bunches of balloons off every protrusion in the hall and popped a few as well while they were playing silly games. It was soon time for the dance to start and senior students started to roll up in groups and singles.
Most students were happy to sign the petition as they paid for their entry. Saffron didn’t recognise most of them because they were so much older, even than her brother. The Student Representative Council were running a drink and hot-dog stall up at the back of the hall - some of them seemed younger.
