One zombified dancer stood rigidly, slowly moving his wide- spread fingers along in front of his eyes.
‘Hey! Look at those two drongos,’ called Ashley. She pointed at a couple of boys, one wearing a black hat and the other in a beanie with “madd dogg” printed on the front. They were showing off their break-dancing routines. The girls collapsed in fits of giggles as the beanie boy’s legs slipped out from under him and he fell flat on his face.
Saffron didn’t have a fashion-passion and often annoyed her friends by not even noticing their new clothes, but her gaze became riveted by the crazy costumes around her. There was a group of girls all wearing fluffy antennae, which bobbed up and down as they danced. One girl was wearing rainbow striped socks and a black skirt, so short that she kept feeling the back to check it hadn’t ridden too high, another was wearing a revealing tank-top with a ridiculous double-frilled skirt and high cork heels. Although Saffron sneered, she was really very excited.
‘Oh, cut that out!’ she shouted at Abigail, who was rubbing a balloon on the top of Saffron’s head until it had enough static electricity to stick underneath the table.
‘Well, so - rry! Don’t chuck a hissy fit! It’s a scientific experiment,’ was Abby’s huffy retort as she simply did the same thing to Claire and Ashley instead. Saffron relented and started to laugh with her friends. They joked and watched the action as the atmosphere in the hall got hotter and smellier.
