Although she always argued with her brother, she was relieved and glad that it was not him who had been hurt.
Headlights illuminated the scene; she gazed at Mitch’s hair gleaming in the intense light and thought, what an amazing colour! Not just wishy-washy ginger! It was an intense, glowing red, cut really short at the front and sides, then cascading into a mullet past his shoulders. His navy tee-shirt had a big, red, screaming face on the front with the words ‘King Crimson’ above it - scary but exciting. Getting to know this boy better was definitely one of her projects.
The lights came on again and the police left; there was only an hour till the dance was due to finish and nobody really felt like dancing any more. Some people just drifted away and the others all went back into the hall. Linda, who had stayed inside during all the commotion, had lovingly reassembled her drum- kit and was producing a laid-back Reggae beat to complement some creative bass-guitar from Wolf.
People either stood around talking or helped repair the damage to the hall. A coloured-light stand had been knocked over and some of its glass smashed. Tables, papers, soft drinks and food were mixed together on the floor. Claire and Ashley were trying to dry sticky, smudged petitions with paper towels. Posters and bunches of balloons had been slashed.
‘What a mess! But we’ve got to take it down anyway.’ Saffron joined the girls and started to fold the tables up.
