'There is! There is!' Saffron exclaimed.
The name of the surveyor was Jimmy. Saffron told him all
about her mother's great plans for the townhouse development, about Magic and the campaign to save the mountain. They were firm friends by the time she left.
'You know, little lady,' said Jimmy, 'I wouldn't do it for anyone but you and Magic, but I have a feeling that this job of ours is going to be a very slow one. I'll stretch it out to the max. so you've plenty of time to deal with the council. We'll hold those bulldozers back as long as we can, my dear.'
Saffron thanked Jimmy and said a fond farewell. She didn't have a halter or rope with her so she used an old, bush trick. She put her hand under Magic's neck and led the pony along by a handful of thick mane.
'I thought that you'd sided with the enemy!' Saffron revealed to Magic, as they walked towards the yards. 'But you're a much better judge of character than I am. Without you I wouldn't ever have got to know Jimmy. He's such a funny, gentle, generous man.'
There was no sign of Mobo. She didn't want to draw attention to Rocky Knoll by going in search of him, but she wondered how he felt about this invasion of his territory. As soon as she had fed Magic her snack, Saffron rushed home to work on the poster design. She avoided looking at the horrible billboard on the way past.
