She left her unappetising meal and hurried to the phone. Snatching it from her brother, she snapped.
‘Hello!’
A soft, but fairly deep voice answered her. ‘Hi Ronnie, have you got a few minutes to talk? It’s Mitch.’
‘Mitch, uh - I ... er, ... wasn’t expecting ...’
‘Yeah, ... sorry for ringing you out of the blue like this. I’m really chuffed that Green Mountain’s all right now. I was at the demo. Didn’t see you though, but I saw you on the news.’
‘I ... er, sort of haven’t got over it yet. I was just so relieved.’
‘Yeah, your horse ... and the mountain looks like such a wild place. The thing is; I was, er ... thinking it’d be great to go riding there. To explore, like ... If I rode over, do you think? ... Would you go riding with me? ... and, if you feel like it, that is, show me ‘round the place?’
‘Sure, that’d be cool. When do you want to go there?’ she replied.
‘Well, I was thinking that perhaps if you weren’t doing anything tomorrow ...’
Mitch started speaking much more confidently. Now that he knew she wasn’t going to make some flimsy excuse and knock him back. They organised to meet on Saturday morning and Saffron left the phone feeling a bit stunned.
