Angie, who hadn’t heard all the details, asked her children to
explain. They did. Charles became polite towards his younger sister for at least half an hour.
‘I think we’ll have to do the cooking while Tom’s away,’ Charles told Saffron. ‘Angie’s just hopeless.’
Angie was indignant. ‘I never have been able to cook ... I’ve been working very hard this week. The plans for the Riverside Apartments are just about finished. There’s every chance that they’ll start laying the foundations by mid-summer.’
Saffron hadn’t seen Mobo since he had told her about
his chicks. The Kitten-Snacks had disappeared but there
was no sign of him anywhere near the shed. She hoped he was just busy and hadn’t decided that humans
were now of no use. On Saturday she kept an eye out for the bird, but, either he
was not there, or he stayed away because she had company.
