Angie added, 'And now that the Mayor’s left town it’s a much better place! You know ... I’m still curious about ... whoever it was ... that surveillance film. No-one’s come forward to take the credit. You haven’t heard have you?’
Saffron’s heart was beating fast, but she forced herself to smile and say airily, ‘Nup, haven’t got a clue.’ She was glad her mother didn’t have access to a lie-detector.
The council had been very obliging about the Green Mountain Reserve. They were happy to let the members of the Committee who had organised the protest take on its management. Mr Worragul was on that committee, so Saffron took the opportunity to talk to him at school about something which kept worrying her. 'It upsets me to see that horrible billboard every time I ride. I hate being reminded of what those people wanted to do.'
'Well, Ronnie. I've been thinking about that too. None of us have the energy or money to remove it. It's so massive and well constructed. I've decided that we should take advantage of the works of the enemy instead of trying to destroy them.'
So every class at Saffron's school had the new design of the Green Mountain Nature Reserve and Agistment Paddocks billboard as their art project. Mr Worragul talked to them about the history of the area and the school booked Athol and Patrick as guest-speakers, to tell them all about the Mountain's ecology.
When each student had sketched their own small picture, to be included on the billboard, they would do a series of field trips to repaint the sign.
