As they walked together to where Tom had parked his bike, he asked her how she felt about her day.
‘It was easier than I thought it was going to be. I was so nervous this morning ... I’m sorry about the tantie. Thanks for coming with me.’
‘And for coughing up the dough. Pony Club’s not that cheap you know!’ he added.
‘Mitch says it’s much cheaper than open competition. Though his parents hate him doing Pony Club eventing because they don’t always have ambulances!’
‘I don’t know anything about eventing ...’ said Tom. ‘No! Don’t tell me! It sounds gruesome, whatever it is.’
It had been a long day. She still had to ride Magic all the way to Green Mountain. Tom was meeting her there. Then, at least, she could get a lift on the bike with him and not have to make her own way home in the dark.
