At lunch time Claire and Ashley, two girls in her class whom she talked to, but didn’t know very well, offered to help with the petition.
They set up a table near the entrance to the main oval.
Most of the kids were pretty supportive. Occasionally, some yob would yell at them to "get freakin’ real!" or the nerds would lecture them about the importance of progress and civic responsibility. On the whole it worked really well, they collected at least sixty new names on the petitions. They were all so pleased that they organised to set up a table at Rivers Plaza,
their local shopping mall, that Thursday night.
‘But ... will the guys who run the plaza let us sit inside at a
table?’ asked Ashley.
‘Yeah, it should be fine. The manager is one of my mum’s
friends. She was on the design team when they built the Plaza last year, you know ... that’s one of the reasons we moved to this town,’ Saffron explained.
Door knocking is O.U.T. - a total waste of time, Rivers Plaza is the way to go, thought Saffron as she made her way quickly home from school. No one was home at her house. There was no point going to the paddock early - she wasn’t supposed to ride with no one there. She brewed herself a cup of tea then took it into Angie’s office and started up the computer. She ratted around until she found the DVD of Green Mountain and sat down to watch it.
