At the start of 2015, NERVO told fans they would release their debut studio album. This would include tracks with Kylie Minogue, Nile Rodgers and Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears. To add to the list of credible producers, NERVO worked with Tim Bergling (AKA Avicii) on “You’re Gonna Love Again.” Artists such as Hook N Sling, Steve Aoki, Afrojack and Protocol Recordings label boss Nicky Romero also feature on the “Collateral” album.
When chatting with Miriam, I asked where the inspiration to write their “Collateral” album came from...
“We had loads of records on our hard drive that we loved and felt connected with, but they weren’t right to release as singles under dance labels. It was a really nice process to put those tracks together and finish them to release on an album that shows what we can do – sure, we can release 128 [bpm] bangers but we also enjoy releasing music for chillin’ on a Sunday, hangin’ with friends, that kind of vibe”.
After listening to the album, I can confirm there is a vast array of tracks to get stuck into, all kinds of flavours too, not just EDM bangers as Mim said. More notably, when I came across their
collaboration with Nicky Romero – “Let It Go” – It is my favourite track from the album, I love it! It was originally made as a single but given its style of genre, Miriam notes, “Nicky didn’t want to release it as a single through his own label cause it wasn’t the right style, y’know.” Miriam describes the track as one they connected with which pushed them on to finish it for the album.
On the whole, “Collateral” is a showcase of the talent that oozes from the Australian pair. It gives you an insight to how experienced they really are and it’s refreshing to know that all songs were produced by both Mim & Liv. Ghost producers? Pffft, the twins eat those for breakfast!
