‘I know this may sound ungrateful, I think she has her eyes on Paul’, Penny told me with some guilt.
‘Penny I know what you are thinking, that Sherry is too old for Paul but look at Rex and I’? I smiled letting her know I understood her concerns.
‘That was different, Rex persuaded you, Sherry is putting herself under his nose. He is very vulnerable, and he needs to concentrate on Shalma’, she said sternly.
‘Don’t worry,’ I squeezed her arm, ‘between us we will keep an eye on the situation’.
Sherry settled into the cottage and her job in the bar. Jenny finished college and came back home to plan her next move, she was hoping to get a job in marketing for a large fashion house. Nothing had come up yet. She started hanging around Paul again, flirting and showing an interest in him, asking him if he needed a babysitter and that she would be free anytime, she would be more than happy to work it around her shifts. Paul took on board her suggestion but not for the same reason as Jenny had in mind, much to Penny and Jenny annoyance.
Paul made a date with Sherry leaving Jenny looking after Shalma. Penny was fuming, and she called me needing to rant, she wasn’t sure if she should worry more that Sherry was ten years older or that Jenny was ten years younger.
Christmas was around the corner. The weather had taken a turn for the worst. Lots of rain, hail and snow. Rex and I were thankful we finished the barn before the weather had changed. We celebrated six months in our home by finally having a house warming. We asked everyone to put suggestions for a name for the barn in a box on the bar. The prize was a meal and free drinks for the night of their choice. I decided to go visit Sherry on her day off to get all the gossip on her date.
