As a wedding present Penny and Paul organized a tent on the village green providing drinks and the rest of the villagers provided a wonderful variety of food. Sherry was overcome to see such kindness and generosity.
The celebrations went on well into the night. We had decided to leave our honeymoon until the New Year, so we could go to Canada. Rex Grandparents couldn’t travel for the wedding due to their ailing health, but they desperately wanted to see both Lilli and myself. Sherry had fitted into village life very smoothly she has almost become one of the villagers and she loved being around the babies. She had become a good friend to Paul accompanying him on his walks with Shalma. They had both been through a lot in the last year and found comfort in each other. Penny and I exchanged glances when we saw them together. I’m not sure if we were thinking the same thing but I do know that Penny was anxious about their friendship. I wanted to have a word with Sherry about her plans for the future. Maybe I could suss out if something other than friendship was going on.
It has been a month since Rex and I tied the knot. He has taken to married life and fatherhood like a fish to water despite my earlier concerns. Friday nights is their father daughter time together, he loves to bath Lilli before her bedtime and I could hear them splashing about and giggling having fun together. I couldn’t help smiling, I was so happy.
Suddenly Sherry breezes in all wind swept and flushed, ‘Hi Amber where is my goddaughter’? she asks cheerfully.
‘Rex is giving her a bath; can we have a chat while he is busy’? I asked a little too sternly.
‘Sure, is something wrong Amber’? she had a worried frown.
