It was a beautiful morning and I had been up since 6am, not because of Lilli but because today was the morning of my wedding. Sherry was still sleeping, she had arrived last night after a couple of weeks driving around the country. She was to be my matron of honor and Paul was going to be Rex’s best man.
Rex and Paul had spent the night in the cottage while Penny, Sherry and I stayed in the barn with the two babies. As we puffed and powdered ourselves for the celebrations the babies were getting the same treatment. I felt wonderful, I had worked hard and managed to lose most of my pregnancy weight and fitted into a beautiful Garry Webb white silk trouser suit with a lace bodice and little white roses adorned my hair. Sherry wore a pale green silk skirt suit and Penny wore a dark green linen skirt suit. The babies were dressed in frilly cream silk dresses with green trim. I carried a bouquet of cream roses with trailing ivy. Penny and Sherry had matching beige beaded purses. We were stunning if I do say so myself.
‘You are a sight to behold’, Father Thomas exclaimed greeting us at the church gate. The villagers decorated the whole village with banners wishing us luck and there were lanterns hanging from the autumn trees with their red and gold leaves and there were ribbons on all the cars. My students from my art class formed an arch from the gate to the door of the church using sticks carved in the shape of paintbrushes in a variety of colours. It brought tears to my eyes, happy tears. It looked spectacular. Inside the church was just as beautifully decorated. The men looked so handsome in dark suits, Rex with a cream silk waistcoat and green tie. Paul was wearing a green shirt and tie. The service was wonderful and so relaxed, it felt right in every way.
