Ignoring the question, I said, ‘you know we love having you here, but Rex and I were wondering if you intend to take off soon or if you are staying indefinitely’?
‘Oh, Amber I’m sorry if I have outstayed my welcome’, she was blushing
‘No! no Sherry I didn’t mean we want you to go, we were wondering if you would like to take over the cottage’? I stuttered.
‘Really’? excitement rising in her voice, ‘Amber that would be great’, she rushed over and wrapping her arms around me, squeezed me tight. Releasing me a few seconds later she frowned again, ‘I’d love to live in the cottage Amber, but isn’t it your dream home’?
‘My dream home is here with Rex and Lilli’, I smiled at her, ‘I do love the cottage and wouldn’t sell it, but I would like my best friend to live there for as long as she wants’.
‘Oh, Amber you are an angel’!
‘That settles it, tomorrow we will move you over’, More hugs and kisses and lots of happy tears.
As we snuggled down under the duvet I told Rex about Sherry.
‘I hope you know what you are doing darling’, Rex kissed my cheek. ‘Of course,’ I answered with some reservation.
Penny complained daily about not having enough time with Shalma, despite being retired she found she was constantly doing small jobs around the B&B and filling in for shifts so when Sherry went to Paul asking for a job he hired her immediately. Penny, although grateful that she could spend more time with Shalma, she was suspicious of Sherry’s intentions.
