Connie Grier (230) life-long educator, mentor and youth advocate, desired
to connect young ladies in Africa, with young ladies here in Philadelphia.
" I wanted to ensure my mentees' knowledge regarding the vast continent of
Africa was not influenced solely by what was viewed in the media, on the
news, and on nature specials. Our schools do not equip students with a
balanced view of Africa, a vast and vibrant continent. I wanted to set the

stage for conversation and sisterhood to
take place from both sides".
To that end, Connie, Founder of The
RESPECT Alliance launched #STARSAfrica
in August 2015. Her mentees were
connected with teen girls in Ghana via
penpal relationships, while she raised
funds and donations in preparation for her
two-week trip to mentor the 40 penpals in
Ghana.

"It was a life-changing experience. Our
next goal will be to get our girls there,
and invite our Ghanaian sisters here".
