Film Projects
Sheppard Mullin attorneys handled production legal work, as well as specialized services in connection with development, production, distribution, licensing, and financing of many film projects in 2015, including the following:
• Represented Empyre Capital in connection with its financial investment in Academy Award winner, “The Revenant”.
• Represented Creative Wealth Media Financing in the co-financing of Sundance 2016 winner “Birth of a Nation” and “I Saw the Light”, an independently financed biopic feature about the life of famed country star Hank Williams, produced by Bron Studios.
• Represented Chinese media companies YooZoo Pictures and Bliss Media in the establishment of a $100 million film fund with Creative Artists Agency.
• Represented Focus Features in legal production and chain of title review of the motion picture “The Book of Henry”, directed by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World), starring Naomi Watts and Jacob Tremblay.
• Represented the Japanese motion picture studio, Nikkatsu Corporation, in connection with the chain of title and film financing for three motion picture projects based on Nikkatsu’s Golden Age library of noir-style films: “Day of the Beast” (including a co-production agreement with John Woo’s and Terence Chang’s Lion Rock Productions) and “Intimidation”.
• Represented Rainmaker in connection with Focus distribution agreement and P&A Financing deal for animated theatrical motion picture entitled “Ratchet & Clank” based on the Sony Video game of the same name.
•Represented Motion Picture Capital in connection with all aspects of the financing, production and distribution of three motion pictures: “Come and Find Me” starring Aaron Paul and Annabelle Wallis, “Crucifixion”, a Peter Safran-produced horror picture and “The Boy Downstairs”.
• Represented Scion Films in connection with the financing, production, and distribution deals for “The Zookeeper’s Wife” starring Jessica Chastain.
• Represented Free State Pictures in connection with their investments in several pictures, including “A Walk Among the Tombstones” starring Liam Neeson, “Black Mass” starring Johnny Depp and the Working Title mountaineering drama “Everest”, starring Elizabeth Debicki, Jake Gyllenhaal and Keira Knightley.
