MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR: CELEBRATING OUR PRESENCE IN ASIA
Sheppard Mullin is proud of our global platform and the growth of our international offices. This year we celebrate two momentous occasions in Asia: the 15th anniversary of opening our Shanghai office, and 10th anniversary of opening our Seoul office.
Our Shanghai office opened in 2007. The attorneys and legal consultants in this office handle corporate and securities, finance, commercial, trade, intellectual property and dispute matters for our clients around the globe. Working with lawyers in our China practice, we handle international matters in the greater China market (mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan markets) as well as in India, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and other markets in the region. The firm’s China Law Update blog and WeChat Official Account (SheppardMullin) provide the latest updates in China law for both Chinese-based companies and global companies with a presence in China. Shanghai lawyers will host a reception in early November for clients and friends of the firm to celebrate.
We opened our foreign legal consultant office in Seoul in 2012. Sheppard Mullin was among the first three law firms from the United States, United Kingdom and the European Union approved to open in South Korea. Our Seoul attorneys provide a broad range of services to Korean-based businesses or businesses with significant Korean operations, including many in the technology, financial services, entertainment, and manufacturing industries, working seamlessly with more than 40 lawyers globally from our industry-ranked Korea practice. The firm’s Korea blog, U.S. Legal Insights for Korean Businesses, provides updates for Korean companies doing business in the United States. We celebrated our 10 year anniversary with more than 100 clients, guests and colleagues in late September in Seoul. Sheppard Mullin continues to operate as a destination firm with international reach for our global clients. As the firm’s first Chair located outside California and as a partner who has spent many years practicing outside of the United States, I understand and appreciate the value that comes from our status as a preeminent firm with a cross- border offering. We will always maintain our focus on excellent client service and our culture as a collegial, entrepreneurial firm as we continue to grow.
