As a child, Angela Wilson was
a ‘sparkly’ little girl full of life
growing up in Port Carling but says
she began to change and shutdown
as she grew older due to societal
pressures and expectations.
“We come into this life completely
unlimited but then we learn to ‘sit down’,
‘be quiet’ or ‘little girls don’t do that’,” she
says. “I grew up at a time when little girls
were supposed to be seen and not heard.
That didn’t work for me because I was
pretty chatty.”
Years later, after surviving an emotionally
abusive relationship and stepping back
from a lucrative accounting career, Angela
reconnected with that ‘sparkly’ youngster
through the creation of Angela Unlimited,
a venture she founded dedicated to giving
women the tools they require to tap into
their inner courage and live the lives they
deserve through group workshops and
one-on-one coaching.
“A lot of women, even though they’re
in high-powered jobs running massive
organizations, there is still a sense of
doubt,” says Angela, referring to her own
time working in accounting firms before
starting her own practice in the early
2000s where she focused on not-for-
profits. “I narrowed it (accounting) down
to dealing with only not-for-profits and
violence against women and children,
and that really came about because I
wanted to feel my accounting work was
doing some good instead of just auditing
somebody’s statements.”
While she found her work rewarding,
it was during this time that Angela
underwent a life-changing experience
when a long-term relationship ended.
‘It’s not selfish to take “I realized that I didn’t know who I was
because that relationship was a very
toxic and a manipulative situation and I
care of yourself’ thought, ‘Who am I?’.”
Despite trying to reassure herself that
she had the financial means to survive on
her own thanks to her accounting career,
- Angela Wilson – Angela Unlimited Angela admits to having major doubts
which came to an emotional head one
day after stopping for a latte on her way
to meet a client.
