Coupling Up and Uncoupling Trailers (ARTICS)

UNCOUPLING OF TRAILERS (with a Split uncouple)

Coupling up to a trailer or uncoupling from a trailer must be carried out correctly and in

a systematic order. Artic drivers need to become familiar with either of the two

procedures listed below. RO-RO drivers need to read from page 20. During the process

of coupling or uncoupling if the driver is interrupted or distracted away from the task

in hand then he or she should take a moment before returning to the task gather

their thoughts and then re-address the procedure. This will prevent the driver from

making mistakes and forgetting aspects of the coupling or uncoupling procedure.

Always wear the correct 5 pieces of PPE.
