P. 5
He knew I was staying with a few friends and offered me a weekend in Ocean City. WOW, and yes, we would fly there in his plane: a
twin-engine Baron Beechcraft, N3600H; remember it well, washed it quite a few times after that first flight.
While on the flight, he told me to look down from ten thousand or more feet. He then asked if I could identify anything. And, of
course, I could not. He then told me to learn to fly in life, always to see how minimal life and its problems are when you are above
them. Always remember that life and the difficulties we or it brings are small when we choose to take flight, get above them, and be
responsible for our actions. Think before we speak or act. Be honest; always tell the truth. Never let anger take over your life. Oversee
self. His final words were: “Learn to Fly; less tiring and much more fun than running.” Had many more life-flight adventures with my
friend John. Another old friend that I sorely miss.
Our Lord God has been so good to me through all these years. So protected I had been on my runaway journeys. I always seemed to
be at the right place at the right time. I was meeting people (adults) that always took an interest in my development and well-being.
Old friend John I flew with on more than one occasion and did odd jobs for him. A lovely man who wanted me to grow upright, stand
tall as a responsible man and learn to fly. To get above my problems, solve the ones I have, and learn how not to make them. And
always remember that they are all small, just as you see them from up in the sky.
Then a new friendship developed with a Howard County Police Officer named Al Massey. I also met him hitchhiking; he and his K-9
partner, "Val," stopped and gave me a ride. When asked about my destination, I was unsure and was detoured to the police canine
training grounds. Fascinating watching them run through their routines and watching them do bite work. In his wisdom knew without
saying that I was a runaway. I spent almost all that day with him and met other kind and generous officers within the department.
They took me to lunch and introduced me to many more coworkers. I was excited about the K-9 training and wanted a German
Shephard immediately. LOL, just me enjoying what I wish for and getting my way. Officer Al gave me a ride home, and I could not get
enough of his or any of the other officer's company.
