1. SAA’s key approaches and major accomplishments
1. SAA
SAA takes an agricultural value chain/agri-food system approach, employing well-defined steps
and a variety of extension models and tools to address the various nodes of the agricultural value
chains. Furthermore, it follows a community- and geographic area-focused approach in what are
known as value chain centers (VCCs), where the various models and activities are integrated and
applied along the value chain. Its intervention begins with participatory site selection, followed
by a need assessment and validation of findings in annual stakeholders’ review and planning
workshop, technology sourcing from knowledge institutions, and the design and implementa-
tion of interventions. The various activities and achievements in each thematic area are summa-
rized below.

In promoting improved production technologies SAA employs Farmers Learning Platform (FLP)
model which encompasses capacity building training, demonstration, and field day events.
