your analysis tells you that you are most likely to impress interviewers as a PRePaRing FoR the inteRview
thought person, with a strong second preference in terms of people, then you
can shape your preparation to ensure that you are able to call up examples of
detailed implementation, meeting deadlines and delivering against obstacles
so as to reinforce your ‘task’ credentials if required. The risk, otherwise, is that
you will find yourself less able to tackle questions based in one or more of
these domains.
More guidance on how to develop your answers in each of the three areas of
the ‘task, thought, people’ model is provided in Chapters 4, 5 and 6.
IN A NUTSHELL
Doing some basic homework is essential if you are to show off your many
talents to best advantage. Key preparation steps to remember are:
n Research the organisation and/or department; you don’t need to be an
expert, but you should be able to demonstrate that you are interested
in them.
n Find out as much as you can about the selection criteria; knowing
what they are likely to be looking for makes it much easier for you to
focus your preparation.
n Research the interview process itself: who, how and when.
n Prepare yourself; understand your assets and risks in relation to the
job, get yourself in the right frame of mind and work on your personal
impact.
